Tracking Adword clicks versus SERP clicks

Are they still indistinguishable from each other?

We tag AdWord URLs with?source=google&kw=widgets, which lets us track clicks from AdWords. But the referrer is identical, as far as I can tell (which makes sense since the browser is adding the referrer) so it's hard to separate paid from SERPs.

Are there any great revelations on this that I have missed? I have tried to search but didn't find anything. Sorry if this is the 2000'th time this has been asked :-}

The referrer is the same but the raw log will show the URL that was clicked, including the tracking string. If your log analysis tool can't tell the difference then you should use landing pages for PPC and make sure that they are not visible to spiders. Then you have no scope for ambiguity.

This also depend on the capabilities of your statistics software. We use the mach 5 log analyzer and that has the ability to threat URL's with? as separate entries so you can distinguish SERP from Adwords traffic.
