Hi,

I have created my first adwords advert and selected Scotland only option in the regional settings. But I cannot see it when I search on google.co.uk

When I change the ad settings to include England and searches on the same words it appears (with England below it).

How does google recognise if a user is in Scotland or England?

Help....

Thanks
Jazz

welcome to webmasterworld.

3 things come to mind:

1, this is the NEW beta/local targeting by Google

2, where are you based and who is your ISP

3, no idea how the regional targeting is done in the UK< as I was under the impression that our IP ranges were well messed up ...

Google uses the IP address of a region to server ads pertaining to that region. So a search in England does not serve ads set to regional target - Scotland. You can get around this using a proxy if you like.

Shak,

Thanks for the welcome

I use BT midband as my ISP.

If the user uses a UK national ISP (ie Wanadoo, BT Yahoo or AOL etc), is the I.P. allocated regional or UK?
