Just got "localized" AdWords for a generic search

I just now did a search for a type of product using the two word search term. It's nothing that would by any means be considered local or that would ever be advertised geared to a local level.

One of the 8 Adwords clearly has "Los Angeles" under it - in the regular type, underneath the ad's URL line.

Never have seen this before, it's the first time. Is this something new, or something I've just missed seeing before?

Marcia, it's been going on for several months, but I don't think a very high percentage of ads are geo targetted yet, so you may not see it very much.

Yes, when I use a NoCal proxy, I see "California" below some ads.

Marcia:

I think this has been going on for a couple of weeks. On my normal rounds for product research, I've been seeing a local company with ads related to what I'm looking at (this was with AdSense, obviously), plus I've seen a few results referencing the state I'm in on a search result or two (ironic because it appears to be a web-only business).
