I'm an affiliate of a US company selling a service to US residents. The rate of commision is between $50 - $90.
I started with Adwords at the beginning of April and by the last 7 days in April, was getting 120 clicks, 25k impressions (CTR of almost .5%) During the course of April, I did a lot of changing to KW, and ads. With more to do in the future.
I'm at the stage now, that most of my ads. contain 2 KWs. So hopefully over the short period of time, my CTR will improve.
Now what I really want to know is this - what % of Clicks will result in sales. I know a lot depends on what's being sold, the price etc. But what sort of figure would be about average - 2%?, 0.5%? or what?

Or is this such a secret no-one will speak about it?

Thanks in anticipation.

As Shak says there is no secret data.

We've got merchants that due to poor site build convert at less than 1%, we've got merchants that convert around 30% of the clicks into sales, and everything in between.

Earnings per click are important, no point in being a affiliate of a great paying scheme if it converts at a much lower rate than one that pays less.

Better to have 50% of $1000 than 100% of $250.

0% to about 30%, depends on the site and the keywords. As mentioned, only the merchant and maybe some of their top affiliates know.

This type of thing can work, but its also important to know when to say when to avoid losing cash that can't afford to be lost. AdWords can eat it up quickly.;)

Getting users to your website is only part of it. Once they get there, you need to make it easy for them to decide to buy (maybe they need to research and compare products first so you must provide enough information so they don't go elsewhere) and then when they decide to buy, you must make it easy for them to complete the sale. Studies have shown that improving website usability by 50% often increases sales by 400%.
