There are some good examples in this thread:
[webmasterworld.com...]

I recently added all the webmaster type searches to one of my campaigns where there is a lot of optimization going on, such as:

-site
-url
-allinurl
-link

Then thought about it, because of this thread, post 9:
[webmasterworld.com...] (and if you're wondering how to easily search WW, read the post).
and added:

-googleguy
-adwordsadvisor
-adsenseadvisor

(Did you guys think you'd be -KWs?)

Dropped my impressions by 15%, clicks by under 1%, and conversions by 0%, so I received a decent raise in CTR out of it.

Any other good global negative KWs out there?

Great idea regarding the special search modifiers. I had never thought of that. Most of my global negatives are all geared toward retail and fall into a couple of categories:

Brands I don't sell:
-sony
-panasonic

People looking for wholesale:
-wholesale
-importer

Image hunters:
-image
-pic
-picture

Price modifiers: (depending on my offer)
-cheap
-best
-discount

Information gatherers: (some will argue here)
-review
-rating
-comparison

I'm always sure to include all the stemmed variations of the above as well.

Hey,

-free? :-]

That is my only standard one right now. But when I am searching for my KeyWords, I will write down any that I see that I definitely don't want my ads showing for.

-lyrics
-book
-books

Nowadays authors write books on everything under the sun.

>>> Does anybody use all exact match?

Nope. But going by the stats of a large number of campaigns, you can expect to lose out on approximately 50% of the traffic.

I almost exclusively use exact match, but I do have a couple of groups with negative keywords, e.g. -brand name, -free.

I use pretty much only exact matches - and I guess I miss out on 50% of the traffic - but the 50% I retain is more targeted and likely to buy. It's more work - but it is worth it IMO.

You are right to a large extent. Exact matches generally have a better conversion rate. For phrase/broad matched keywords, just adjust the bid prices to account for the lower conversion rate.

There's a third path Jedi..

I have setup two campaigns for the same keyword. One is exact match, the other is broad match. If you setup the exact match campaign first you will find that both campaigns will get traffic and you can modify your broad match bids down as needed to respond to the lower conversion.

It can vary depending on your goods

Software:
-free
-serial
-crack
-warez
-copy
-backup
-iso

Services:
-free
-reviews

Products:
-free
-auctions
-wholesale
-review
-affiliate

So on and so forth. If your selling something definately recommend -free :)

Depending on your offer, it would be worth while to break out [widget free shipping] into it's own Ad Group. It's the one "free" that's not a conversion killer.

I have thought long and hard about global negatives and can't find many other than the ones you see in the sandbox, e.g. (software niche)

-serialz
-crackz
-"serial numbers"

etc

It is a good idea to look through your logs and add any negative keywords relating to innapropriate visits.
