Is it ok to use the same keywords for two different ads? These ads are for different companies but they sell similar products? Seems like a good idea to me.

Adwords will let you use the same keyword in mulitple adgroups, but if the adgroups are within the same account the ad serving will be effected. Usually what happens is one of the ads will only be shown on content sites.

This topic has been discussed a lot in recent weeks zeus661, so you may want to troll for other threads to get more details.

But very briefly:

* Yes, you can use the same keyword in more than on Ad Group of campaign. However,

* only one ad will show at any time for a given keyword search. So,

* the AdWords system has to decide which ad to show. It will pick the usage of the keyword which has the highest Maximum CPC. If all Max CPCs are equal, then

* the system will pick the usage of the keyword with the highest CTR.

Usually what happens is one of the ads will only be shown on content sites.

I think seth_wilde is referring to a technique often discussed in this forum, designed to achieve a lower CPC for content ads.
