Google March Impressions Bug (impressions fell to 0)

Hello all,

My account has been averaging more than $10 a day of clicks (200 or more clicks/day), since last year. As of last month, no problems.

Since start of March, I noticed a steady drop of impressions. Then today, my impressions are zero, gone, no clicks at all. That's more than 10 Ad Groups with $1,000 max daily budget (more than the recommended just to be sure).

What could possibly have happened. This account has been active every month since last year, (max daily budget is high, above the recommended).

I am experienced in this. This is a phenomenon I am simply at a loss to explain. This has never happened before. Falling impressions, sure. But a complete stop to all my impressions is unexplainable. Awa?

Any help is appreciated.

Best regards,
Alex

Thank god I'm not the only one!

I am battling the same problem alextc. All I could figure is that my page rank was pushed back beyond 80 or so pages worth of search results; leaving me with no impressions, and no CTR to help me float my way up. I'v been playing around with CPC and keyword specifics, and its starting to get better. Can someone fill us in on this? What is the story?

impressions are down overall but that should not be more than 10% or so. Check your average position, you may have more competition.

You can not rely on broadmatching anymore. G has changed the way broadmatching works and some of your terms may not be broadmatching at all.

Unfortunately G *does not* tell you when a term is no longer broadmatching.

The result has been to 'tighten' the inventory (space available for ads) so that the value (price) has gone up.

I have checked some stats. March 2, 30,000 impressions. March 3, 5,500 impressions. March 4, 0 impressions.

It's not the rank or ave. position either. My ave. position either remained the same, and in some cases, even went up.

It may be some bug or glitch on Google? Hmmm. 30,000 or more impressions going down to 0 is unexplainable right now (check your account often, it's bad that I'm not alone in this.)

If it happened to our old accounts, it can certainly affect anybody randomly.

Can AWA at least check on our accounts? or ask Google's techies on this?

HELP!

Best regards,
Alex

Over the last 3 months our impression rates have fallen steadily by a total of 40% and sales with them. I posted elsewhere on this and got no concensus.

Yesterday I ran a check on every concievable key word phrase we have and our once solid list of phrases now looks like a lace curtain with only very patchy coverage.

We have re-written almost all of our pages and content to no avail. Google simple refuses to see us and hence we don't qualify for impressions under our relevant terms.

It is as if Google is blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. If we are deliberately made invisible for search terms that are fundamental to our business it is like an advertiser insisting that our ads are put in the wrong publications.

We only sell one product to people who come searching for that one key phrase and Google says it isn't relevant, nightmare.

No amount of editing code or pages can really set this right until Google allows the sellers of red widgets to say " we sell red widgets" to people who want to buy red widgets. Totally frustrated.

If I had to characterize the emails that come in to AdWords every day, I'd say there are always quite a few from advertisers who say that their impressions have gone way down.

However, there are also always a similar number from advertisers who say that their impressions have gone way up.

So calling this thread "Google March Impressions Bug" may be a little premature. ;) I'm all but certain that rather than being a bug, this will turn out to be an issue particular to the account(s) in question.

Can AWA at least check on our accounts?

I'm sorry to say that I really can't do this myself, as I have kind of a full plate already. However, you may certainly request that this be done by simply writing from within your account, using the 'Contact Us' link.

In your email, describe the issue specifically and briefly. Include all pertinent information, such as account(s), campaigns, Ad Groups, and/or keywords affected, dates, etc. This is the sort of question that can be rather quickly resolved by someone with access to your accounts. And you can reach that person by contacting AdWords support.

Other notes:

Thank god I'm not the only one! I am battling the same problem alextc. All I could figure is that my page rank was pushed back beyond 80 or so pages worth of search results; leaving me with no impressions, and no CTR to help me float my way up.

This confuses me a bit, as it sounds as if we are (at least partially) referring to search results, which are 100% unrelated to AdWords ads.

...We have re-written almost all of our pages and content to no avail. Google simple refuses to see us and hence we don't qualify for impressions under our relevant terms.

...No amount of editing code or pages can really set this right until Google allows the sellers of red widgets to say " we sell red widgets" to people who want to buy red widgets. Totally frustrated.

Not sure about this post either. Again, it seems related to search results, rather than AdWords. Please correct me, if I'm missing something. ;)

Just to confirm for the record: there is no relationship between the unpaid search results, and the paid AdWords advertising program. One does not affect the other in any way.

Thanks for the info, AWA. Hmmm, maybe naming it "March Impressions Bug" was a little bit getting ahead. I guess I just panicked at seeing more than 30,000 impressions a day go to zero. totally unexplainable by experience alone.

That said, I have contacted by email and phone, Adwords support. The rep said he'll contact a "specialist" (this was his exact term), to email me on progress. Great to know that. I'll be updating everybody here on what happens.

Thanks again, AWA... =)

Best regards,
Alex

It appears that I was penalized for having two accounts. My account was stopped (0 impressions), and my other account also stopped (couldn't charge my cc).

For those having similar problems, Google may have penalized you for having multiple accounts (particularly if you used the same credit card).

The email below:
