Guess what, they relented, and lowered the adwords in question to the maximun I was going to pay to achive my desired ROI.

So if you are paying what Google tells you you should be paying, instead of what your accountant
is telling you. Listen to your accountant, and lower the bids to your maximun bid. And tell Google about it. They will say no, but in a few months, that no will change to a yes.
If we all stick together, and pay what we can afford, then we have power over minimun keyword pricing.
Hmm...some money, or no money, for Google? It's a business after all, right? And they know they cant' get the same CPC on everything, across the board, so...looks like they made a good business decision.
