delete adgroups or switch to different campaign

Can you do either of these two things?

I would like to delete adgroups for good, switch adgroups to different campaigns and even isolate out a keyword and switch it to its own adgroup or campaign.

I know...I'm so needy...sorry ;-)

(but maybe all of these PhD's at Google can do this simple thing for me)

hudson, all of these things are quite easily done from within your account. It's just a matter of coming up to speed on the interface.

Now, I know that the FAQ is not the most entertaining reading on the planet - but if advertising your business is important to you, it is time well spent. The FAQ serves as your 'owners manual' for the program, and it is difficult to get the best results without at least reading some of it. IMO, the more the better. Knowledge is power, here as elsewhere.

I sort of liken the AdWords FAQ to the owners manual for a technically advanced car. Sure, you can get in the car and drive it without reading the owners manual. Hey, you already know how to drive after all! But you aren't likely to get the most out of the car without first learning about its unfamiliar features.

One note: there is not a one-click way to switch Ad Groups to different campaigns. Essentially, you'll want to re-create the Ad Group in the new campaign, then delete it in the first instance.

The ability to do this more quickly has appeared on several product wish-lists on this forum, and I've forwarded the requests to the product development team.

Thanks for the reply, AdWordsAdvisor. I am off to read the owner's manual and will ask questions later ;-)

OK...the FAQ tells you how to delete an AdGroup...check the box and delete...but I want to delete an AdGroup for good...make it vanish from my account...not have it be a ghost. Is there anyway to delete an AdGroup permanently?

Changing Ad Groups to different campaigns should be like moving mail to different folders.

Basically, you are saying you need to recreate the entire thing...keywords, ads, etc...then delete the old. But this is a lot of work and also loses all the stats.

And the last was isolating out a keyword. Same thing...it should be like moving mail between a folder...check a box, pull down a menu and select a different campaign or ad group.

Good question, hudson. The Ad Group will always exist in the database, because you may want access to that information someday.

However, you can choose to never see it again (at least until you want to) by choosing the 'Show only active Ad Groups' option from the drop down menu near the top left of the campaign page. This is a 'sticky' setting that'll stay that way until you change it.

Likewise, there are similar ways to hide deleted campaigns, ads, and keywords.

Changing Ad Groups to different campaigns should be like moving mail to different folders.

...isolating out a keyword...should be like moving mail between a folder...

Good points, which I'll be happy to pass on to product development.

AWA that is the reason I keep one adgroup in my original campaign even though it doesn't really fit with the others and skews the budget. The keywords in the group have a 5% CTR and are using that to make it into the top positions despite fairly low CPC figures. I would love to be able to move the whole thing into the appropriate campaign perserving the CTR and other settings. This would make tracking and comparison a bit easier for me.

Hi AdWordsAdvisor, thanks for your replies. It is really great that Google hangs around these boards and responds to questions.

My vote would be for a way to permanently delete an ad group or a campaign, but I see the value in how things are done now.

Switching ad groups between campaigns and keywords between ad groups/campaigns would be super!

Also, we need a standardized way of writing "ad groups"...I think in this post I wrote it three different ways:

ad groups
AdGroups
adgroups

Kind of might be all that looking for keywords kicking in ;-)

That'd be the AdWords writing team. And what they say goes around here, believe me. ;)
