Adding thousands of keywords with no progress

I have been adding literally thousands of KW over the past month, but I seem to be taking one step forward and two back. After adding KWs I seem to get a small boost in traffic, but after a few days of relief I seem to get hit again with falling traffic counts. Even with thousands of new keywords my overall traffic count seems to be steadily declining since October. Does anyone have any similar experiences and/or ideas to improve the situation?

Are your impressions and CTR falling or remaining steady?

If you are bidding on the 'new hot search terms', then they quickly peak and then fall off, so impressions could raise and fall a lot with those. If your CTR is falling, you need better ads.

My CTRs on the old words are steady or climbing, but my impressions are falling. The new words, I don't really know, as they haven't gone through the "wash" long enough.

If your CTRs are going up, then for your terms you're doing it right.

It seems like you're either exact matching too much, thus not catching some peripheral traffic, or not choosing the right keywords.

You might want to check out the Overture inventory tool or wordtracker and see keyword volumes to determine what keywords would help your overall volume out.

Just remember, it's not volume, its quality clicks and ROI that matter.
