Here are some scenarios & questions. Thanks for any help.

Under which circumstances below would a UK adwords campaign appear? (I mean which of these would result in my ads being displayed)

1. search google.com using a UK-based ISP
2. search google.com using site:.co.uk
3. search google.com for "uk widgets"
4. search google.co.uk using "search the [whole] web"
5. search google.co.uk using "pages from uk" (duh)
6. search google.de (etc) for "uk widgets"
7. My site is hosted on US servers. This doesn't matter, right?

Any other scenarios I need to know about to make that I "catch" every user that is either a) in the UK or b) looking for a UK-based resource

THANKS
MARK

Geo-targeting is based on the user's IP location.

If you've geo-targeted to the UK, number 1.
If you've selected all countries (the default setting), numbers 1-7.

but if it is based on the user's IP address (location) then surely a UK geo-targetted campaign will work for all of scenarios 1-6 won't it?

Because regardless of where I go and what advanced search options I choose, my IP address will always be in the UK.

No?

I am not based in the UK so I did a bit of experimenting with a keyword.

Testing out your scenarioes.

1. Not able to test, but I would guess that it would show UK ads mixed with general ads.
2. Showed general ads mixed with ads specific to my country, no UK ads
3. Showed general ads mixed with ads specific to my country, no UK ads
4. Showed UK specific ads mixed with general ads
5. Showed UK specific ads mixed with general ads
6. Showed no ads at all
7. For ads I don't think the location of the server is important.

thanks racer.
when you said "ads" are you referring to the adwords the whole time? or are you sometimes referring to the natural serps?

Just to be clear :)

I gave it a test too. The ads only showed up on google.co.uk, no matter where you're located. It has nothing to do with user IP. I tried searching google.com using a UK IP, no ads showed up.

Wonder why ads not showed in scenario 2. Hope it's not a bug.

possibly just because they haven't thought of that scenario in terms of adwords. Surely that can't be right though.

thanks for that
