Hi all,
my Google rep says that eventually (like january 1st) all ads will show up on the right side of the screen, an nothing will show up in the premium spot anymore (above the results). However I got a brochure promoting AdWords and it clearly shows an "adwords" ad in the top premium spot. Anyone else get this brochure? I faxed it to my rep because she was skeptical. She is fairly convinced that the brochure was meant to show a current adwords ad that got "bumped up" into a premium spot, and not meant to convey the perception that the top spots were now considered adwords real estate.
Anyone else getting mixed messages on this?
Thanks,
Smokey

From what I understand the user interface isn't going to change, and that the top Adwords are going to be where the current premium listings are. But, that hasn't been totally nailed down according to our Google rep. We had some of them in last week, and they couldn't even confirm that. But that's the general feeling, but don't quote me on that yet.

Dave,
Thanks for the feedback. I'm at least consoled by the fact that I'm not the only one getting vague information from Google. I think if they are going to keep the top spots and use them for the top adwords ads, we should be allowed to submit different creatives so that it doesn't have the disjointed look of an adwords ad that was forced into the premium format. They aren't really meant to be interchangeable. Know what i mean?

Our numerous discussions with G about this topic over the past month have been painfully vague as well.

Maybe we should start a tread or somehow petition Google to please keep the Premium Placement in-tact for adwords as follows:

1. Automatically grant premium placement slots to the top 2 ads without min CTR/Spend/Whatever (within reason, like maybe a 1% min CTR to get promoted).

2. Make premium placement an option on our control panels just in case some adwords users want to be on the right instead.

This would be consistent with what G's competition is doing.

Any thoughts?

I'll raise my hat to Google the moment Google keeps all ads clean on the right and search results on the left. I doubt they need it financially anymore. I always found it un-Google to show them up North.

vitaplease,

Some adwords sites are more relevant than the regular listings.

I thought Relevance was Google's mantra?

Hi all,

I'm operating under the assumption (until I hear otherwise) that the top 2 positions will continue to exist, and that they will be the top AW slots, with a quality threshold applied.

Please know that this answer is not cast in stone - but it is the best information that I have at this moment.
