how much time do you spend on it?

We're about to embark on a Google Adwords campaign and I wondered how much time we should allocate to campaign management?

I know this will depend on the type of campaign, number of pharases targeted, etc, but let's assume we start very small. We'll try a one-off test campaign for an e-commerce site with only a £200 ad spend budget across no more than 50 keyword phrases.

Any estimates for time spent on campaign management?

I think once you have your campaign set up and running smoothly, it won't require a great deal of time at all - of course it does all depend on the business. You will need to spend some time looking through the logs and seeing what visitors came, and which ones you didnt want (then negative match them). I dont think anyone can give you a definative value, it's all about how dedicated you want to be to getting the best out of your adwords.

Sounds like most of campaign management is in the set up (which can be a lot of work, I know). Not much ongoing management required then?

To me the time spent in management comes from breaking out ads that are getting a lot of traffic but not many clickthroughs. I like to create new ad groups for them, and lower or increase the bid. Although I research what the anticipated traffic will be, I don't know until I actually see what traffics like. I also write more specific creatives for the higher traffic new ad groups. And/or I've been Geotargeting them if appropriate.
