how does it work?

I've had a client ask about showing up on MapQuest for the town where their hotel is located. MapQuest says the ads are delivered by Adwords but I haven't been able to find any details about who gets listed or why. Do you just pick the city, state for keywords and hope it shows up, or is there any more certain way? Thanks for any tips.

It is definitely more trial and error to get those ads to appear.

The ads you see are AdSense ads, which are supplied by Google Adwords. When you set up an Adwords account, you will need to be sure you specify that the ads can be displayed across the Google ad network, which includes AdSense.

There should be others here who can give more advice on targeting a specific site running Adwords, but I have heard it is a lot of trial and error to do so.

Thanks, that's helpful. I should have realized it was AdSense. I hope some day Google will let us target specific sites.
