'Pausing' Individual Ads

Is there anyway of pausing, or placing a particular ad on hold?

I just want to test some new ones and take the existing ones offline, but I don't want to go through the rigmoral of deleting and then recreating the old ads.

You can only pause the complete ad group, not individual ads (unless you delete & reactivate them). You can test new ads within the same group without taking existing ones offline though.

Alternatively, you could create a new ad group with the same keyword set, etc but different ads. You can then pause the old group & activate the new one. (not ideal, I know, but it's the only workaround I can think of).
