Well I started making chanels for my website. And surprise! The channel name is limited to only a small number of letters (30 to be exact). I have some pages on my site that have addreses longer than 30 characters, and I can't use chanels for them... Frustrating...
Is there something that can be done?

And another thing.
For my webpage I use a .htaccess redirect from example.com to www.example.com. You know, non www to www.
I wrote the name of the chanels as instructed by google: example.com/widget and so on, without the wwww.

Is that ok? Might there be some problems because I use a redirect from non www to www?

In my opinion, it doesn't matter what you name your channels as it is for your information only.

You could lump all your sites together without a channel and still get the totals just not be able to see which site does the best.

You could even use, www:redwidget.anything and get the results of the site you place that code on.

It is for your record keeping, not Googles.

Channels are garbage.

Channels have always been garbage.

However, Google thinks giving us MORE of the same garbage makes it better garbage.

Channels need to be done over from scratch to be useful IMO.

Channels are garbage.... but garbage, if sorted into categories like glass, metals, paper, and so on, becomes recyclable and thus more valuable. AdSense data, if sorted into channels, becomes a little more valuable too.

Bill, how would you do over channels from scratch?

Bill, how would you do over channels from scratch?

I've discussed this topic before but here goes...

1) Why must I have to specify 100s of URLs for URL channels?

Google already knows the PAGE and should track it automatically and at a minimum let me check OFF pages I don't really care about tracking. Opt-out channels vs. Opt-In channels would sure make sense compared to what we have now. Maybe that's another reason they purchased URCHIN and they plan on charging us for REAL channels.

The worst part is I had to PASTE 180 stinking URLs in ONE AT A TIME!

They don't even had a stinking TEXT AREA to let me paste them all in as I could've cut and pasted the entire pile directly from my web stats program but noooOOOOOoooooo..... I had to sit there like some fool feeding AdSense's carpal tunnel inducing channel page one by one just to get a simple list already in my clipboard.

Can you say GRRRR? I sure can!

2) I would like to track the performance of each ad block per page but it's impossible when you have 3 ads per page and thousands of pages to track. Let's see, 3 ads per page multiplied by 1,000 pages is about 3,000 channels I'd need to see the "big picture" and do indepth analysis and that's still leaving out a LOT of pages.

I opted to track ad blocks by channel so I know what ADLINKS, SKYSCRAPERS and LEADERBOARDS are doing SITE WIDE. Then I filled up the rest of the channels with 180 or so of my top traffic pages to see how they're performing.

More importantly, who in the heck would sit and type in 3,000 unique channels?

The channel creation should be automatic per page, per ad unit and let me OPTIONALLY ad unique channels like it currently does for special tracking.

However, as it is I sure couldn't tell you which ad blocks are performing best on which pages nor do I have the desire to sit and fiddle with removing old channels and making new channels all the time because I DO HAVE A LIFE! that doesn't revolve around AdSense channels so I suffer with what exists - minimalistic garbage.

Great advice on the need to redo channels.

I heard about some third-party software to help measure ad clicking.

Sounds dodgy?

Anybody have a tool alternative for Adsense Channels?
