Hello

I run lot of forum sites using vbulletin. On home page I am getting proper ads, but when I go in threads I get PSAs. Does anyone have an idea how I can get adsense working in threads too.

Is it a session ID problem with vBulletin?

On bulletin boards you will get Ads displayed for bulletin board software and other environmental and charity ads.

I don't think these are paid ads -- You get $0.00 per click by your visitors.

I started using AdSense code on some of my bulletin boards. They did NOT increase my revenue, so I took them off.

The best way to make money using AdSense is by providing good content and getting more traffic to your site. If you have ads that are target towards your site's niche, you will get more clicks.

I have used AdSense on message boards since the beginning, and they show targeted ads, right down to the subject of the specific thread. If the thread is about underwater basket weaving, I will see ads related to underwater basket weaving.

I don't think I have ever seen a single ad on my message boards related to any kind of message board software, or related subjects. I only see PSAs in the first few minutes after a thread starts, then targeted ads are shown. I know many other members here are the same, showing targeted ads within minutes of a thread appearing, and with ads specific to each individual thread.

If someone is having a problem with PSAs on message boards, it is more likely to do with mediabot having problems with the URLs the message board uses.

Hello Jenstar,

Can you advice what steps did you take to ensure you get targeted ads on all threads of Vbulletin.

I don't use vBulletin, but if you go to their site and visit the support forums, there is a lot of very specific information for implementing AdSense into vBulletin.

As Jenstar said, there is information on how to hack the older versions at the vb site. Also, the 3.0 version that should not have the same problems. It can avoid session IDs right out of the box.

Edit sessions.php and set the sessionhash to null. This will fix your problems. Worked wonders for me. :)

CPCRetirerment: 3.0 has problems too. It lets Googlebot spider the page without a sessionhash but will try to put a sessionhash at random in guests URLs (unregistered user). The session hash in the URL at ANY point makes adsense unusable.

Ah... I had not read that about 3.0 yet. Bummer.

I have a small vBulletin board also. Some pages never get indexed, but, after a couple hours, the plain thread pages do. It's not targetted all that well, but that may be do to the fact that the board is about a rather small niche that there aren't many ads for. I run vBulletin 2.2.9
