Most of the people around here have never even heard of David Ogilvy, so why trust their judgment, or yours?

Why not give their judgment a test, rather than writing it off completely.

It seems you know who David Ogilvy is, but are still having problems and actively asking for help:

I don't know, but I am sure I can do better. Any ideas, sticky me. My site is in my profile.

I seem to be spinning my wheels and I know I should be making more than $10/day.

I'm a newbie around here, but I can attest to the fact that I could hardly read the content of that magazine site due to the ads.

If it's not pleasing to the eye, then I don't want to be there, UNLESS the content can overpower that urge to hit the X in the top right hand corner.

I feel no shame for proclaiming bad design when I see it. We're all grown ups here, I think, and should be able to take some thoughtful criticism.

i remember my ex girlfriend, who is a graphic designer, checking my websites for the first time.
she told me flat out what she was thinking about my "web design". i thought, my sites were clean and pretty. i wasn't prepared for her statements and did not expect such in my ears rude criticizm, so i was a bit upset.
it's like telling someone "your clothing looks like crap" :)
but i managed to break in this subject matter and after a while, my sites looked better.

come on, this is his website. maybe it's a several years work. he could have no skills to do it better and maybe just doesn't want someone nagging about his site.

if the comments are unasked, don't wonder about affronted reactions. respect personal feelings.
if the person is asking explicitly for comments, then he has to face the truth.

Well Done!

Do you do anything different to the previous month?

no in reality i have done nothing to the existing sites ( i have been working very hard on a new site that is been rolled out now).

I was able to forecast this months earnings on the changes I made in the first 2 weeks of september, and saw there impact in the last 10 days of that month.

This month I am just cleaning out underpreforming pages.

I hope to have the new site completely live by the end of the month, and therefore in December go back to my principal site and give it a months worth of work.

If it is what I think it is, how did you bring so much traffic to a MFA site?

I know a guy who has the most god awful website I have ever seen...But he spends a ton of time working on it and is very proud of it. The other day I found out he is color blind. It all made sense as I could not figure out how he could pick such horrible colors and think it looked good.

His website was a real good lesson to me in the sense that what you see is not necessarily what others see. There are so many different screen sizes, resolutions and varying qualities of monitors out there that make it difficult to create an attractive looking website for all visitors. So now I test out my sites in as many different ways I can. What may look like an attractive looking burgundy in a laptop could look obnoxiously red in a desktop with an old monitor.
