Most of us have speculated as to why. Some say (myself included) that adwords advertisers 'turn off' or 'slow' their adwords accts so as not to leave them unattended over the weekend. Some attribute decreasing traffic on weekends to the fact that in the northern hemisphere, people take advantage of the summer weather to get outside on weekends... whatever. There's truth in them all.
But I made a broad change across my sites on Friday night (it's Sunday night here now) and my adsense earnings are up to mid-week levels or a little better. What did I do?
I put this frame breaker code in the <head> of all my sites:
<script language="JavaScript">
if (top!=self) {
top.location = location;
}
</script>
It's the only change I made to my sites.
My weekend traffic levels are average based on most other weekends, but my clickthru rate is waaaaay up based on other weekends.
I get a lot of traffic from Ask.com and some of my articles have been referenced at sites like About.com and a few others which frame my pages under their header.
Now that I have the frame breaking code on there, my adsense ads must be more targeted or something because earnings and clicks are up. I hope this carries on throughout the week as well.
I know frame busting code has been discussed here before because I got the above code from a WW thread, but never got around to trying it until now.
I'll report back on this in a couple of weeks when I have enough data to crunch out some % for you all.
Til then, I'm in love with frame busting!

See if it holds up. It could just be random variation.
During the slow summer months we add "content" to our AdWords program in order to keep traffic flowing at reasonable levels.
Once the kids are back in school and mom & dad are thinking about winter vacations the cost gets too high for us to support (especially now that most of the key winter weeks are already booked) so we cut back on the content part.
We are just about reaching that point now and I would assume that other advertisers are doing the same thing.
As of Saturday, my 10 year old site lost its top 10 rankings on Google (still maintains its top 10 ranking on Yahoo and MSN), therefore my adsense earnings have been cut to 1/3 of my average earnings. My traffic from Google has dropped from 2400 to 100 daily. If you read this thread [http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum30/31280.htm] in "Google Search News" of webmasterworld, you will see that some type of Google "change" has happened in the last few days.
Many sites have been "dropped", which means many other sites might have a new top ranking. You might want to check your stats regarding your traffic from Googles search engine before making code changes, to see if that is the explanation for your new success.
I have a business side, and a consumer side to the site.
The business news dies at weekends as expected, and the consumer side picks up a little - and that also seems to be mirrored by an upswing in advertising as consumers are at home and willing to spend - ergo, more advertisers targetting them.
I don't get any organic traffic to speak of, its all PPC and bookmarks far as I know.
Sunday was my second best day ever, after three miserable days. I figured there was a click backlog and Google decided to credit it all on Sunday.
