Missing clicks

channels clicks not adding up

Everyday, my 'aggregate' clicks are about 15% more than the sum of all my channel clicks. ie, if I display my adsense report in 'aggregate' mode, I have around 60 clicks reported, equalling $x amount. But if I show my report in 'channel' mode, and select 'all' channels, I only show around 45 clicks, with less than $x total.

Can anyone help explain these missing clicks? I am not missing any earnings from them, but I would like to know where they are acutally coming from. It is like this everyday - and I only have around 8 channels, with most of my clicks only being on about 5 actual pages.

Are all your ads on channels? If not then that would explain the "missing" clicks.

xtreem -

If you are using URL channels, some of these clicks could have been generated from cached versions of your page appearing in search engine results. Also, someone might be framing your content so the clicks are attributable to a different URL. Using 'www' in your URL channel can also have an effect on tracking.

If you are using custom channels, it is likely that one of your ad units might not be attributable to a channel.

Hopefully, one of these answers will apply in your case.

They are either on channels, or google automatically assigns a 'url channel' based on the url.

Based on the channels listed, and my stats, I can quite easily see that there are no missing channels or urls from the list, as there aren't that many.

Yet for some reason my aggregate stats are always about 15 clicks more than my 'all channels' stats.

Could it have something to do with using url channels combined with people using browsers that block the referer? Or maybe people clicking on more than one ad? Or people visiting through the same proxy? Anyone else seeing this?

sorry didnt see your reply ASA. I will look into it, I think something like what you described applies in my case. Hopefully using actual channels rather than url channels might help fix it.

Using 'www' in your URL channel can also have an effect on tracking.

Would setting the url channel as domain.com rather than www.domain.com be better? (i.e. would setting it as domain.com also catch any results from www.domain.com?)
