Customizing ad appearance on your page

Your tips/experiences please!

First, hi to all from this new member. You all seem to have done really well from Adsense and it's encouraged me to start my own site.

I've seen the different types of Google banners and scrapers available and gather that you can change background colours to suit your own site...but what else is possible? Can you change the link colour or underline with CSS for example? Any cool tips? I can't try these things out yet cos I don't have an account yet! ;-)

Ya, once you get your account, you should definitely apply, but to answer your question, there is no CSS, its just all javascript. You can change the background color, the color of the text, the color of the link, and the color of the border.

Think about the users of your website. Personally I make my ads stand out as ads (different color from my page and with a border) because I get a lot of return users from bookmarks. If I had a lot of people who only came to my site once than I would be tempted to try and blend the ads in with the content.

This page details practices we've seen work well for publishers. Of course, these tips are general and to find out what works best on your specific site, you'll have to experiment a bit.
