Tips to increase adsense profit

Ok I'll start.
Always seek links, set yourself a target of asking 5 sites a day (or more) to request a link.

Put add on adwords, make a good content add and it willget displayed, if it reads well people will click on it. just make it for 0.05 cents.

put ads in forums on your topic with a link to your site.

put job ads on your topic and links to your site in free job add sites.

OK, anyone else got any ideas on how to generate instant traffic for new sites, please nothing about search engine placement, I dont want ideas on that for the moment, but I do realize how important it is, it just takes to much time.

I want instant things I can do, that will generate high or medium target traffic to my site. Things that I can do for free. Remember a lot of newbies dont have much of a budget to start off with, but we allget pretty excited when we start to see dollars coming in.

One of the things I find very hard is asking for links.
Even when I believe my site is good, looks like I'm not too self confident to go asking for linking.

Well you have to get over that - you're not going to have much luck if you cannot drum up enough confidence to ask for a link now and then.

Getting links to your site is so important, you just gotta suck it up and do it. Once you've gotten a few links, it'll become easier. And don't overanalyze the process. Man, that's something I had to guard against when I first started. What I mean is, just write a simple email message to potential link partners that quickly explains why you're writing. Be cordial and professional - and SHORT! I've found that a long request is the kiss of death. 5-10 sentences at most is plenty. Oh, and above all, post their link FIRST before you approach for a reciprocal link. It's good netiquette.

I am always getting emails from people asking for me to link with them.

It pisses me off mostly, I check out their sites and find it about some totally unrelated subject.

Some of the messages appear to be computer generated, which is even worse. So if you want to go down that road be sure to only ask admins who's site IS related to yours, and have a place where they can put your link.

Get ready for knockbacks and silence (silence mostly), but remember its not YOU thats getting rejected, but only your request.

If you have good content people will link to you. So the best long term bet is to get content that people like. My site lives basically for one page that has been listed in 100's of sites including wiki. That page is my life and success.

Okay, Here are my tips.

I have been reading a lot on this board and have reached a conclusion...People do NOT read!

Tip #1. Read the TOS, the T&C, and Googles tips. Read all of these things at LEAST 3 times. Once for scannung through, second for sense, third for memory and you will KNOW when something dings a bell in your mind and you will know right where to find your answer.

Tip #2. Strictly adhere to the TOS and T&C, stay away from the gray areas.

Tip #3. always stick to the KISS formula and IF you get booted you will have a much easier time getting re-instated.

A side note here: NEVER split pages apart to make more pages for advertising. Pages should be split only if it will enhance your visitors reading experience on your site.

Those combined with loads of real content and an interesting/useful topic will net you higher paying clicks and more earnings.

Then people will be asking you for links.

Make sure you have GOOD CONTENT. If your site is truly original, people will want to link to it, share it with others, book mark it and come back... and maybe even feature it in their magazines/newsletters.

Play around with your code. My site's earning tripled when I made some changes; I expirimented with color, placement, Adlinks, asense, etc. to see what works for my site.
I've recently had a lot of sucess with adlinks across the top of the page.. but they're placed in such a way as not to distract from the content.

But don't make your site look crappy.... Some people do, but I cringe at the thought of placing ads above my content. I don't want to scare people away; I'd rather have one person visit my site 5 times, than 5 people visit my site once.

Keep your log files ready, keep your code clean and simple and generally be able to prove in a click or two that there is NO blackhat SEO going on.

Don't hide stuff, don't cloak, etc...

I agree with Ann. I use vanilla HTML as much as possible with a little CSS thrown in to simplify maintenance. I keep my design clean and simple so the content stands out which means don't overdesign the site and make it graphic-heavy. Make sure your site is template driven by using includes or shtml or something similar so that you can make site-wide changes with only a flick of the wrist.

DON'T go spamming forums or do anything spammy
DON'T break the rules
DON'T steal content
DON'T get discouraged when a Google update eliminates 90% of your traffic
DON'T check your stats so much it digs into your site building time

DO write great content. People will link to it naturally and that's a good thing.
DO host your site on a quality server with lots of bandwidth and excellent technical help even if it costs a little more.
DO continue to read this forum and research the "biz" because this time next year you will laugh at the mistakes you made and the year after that you will do it again.
DO some blogging related to your site's subject and once in a while slip in a realted link to a page on your site
DO experiment all the time

What helps me to get good links, without even having to ask for them, is I put a page up a long time back with information on how to link to my site, and the requirement that their site be family safe. I get a request from a good PR site a couple of times a month. REMEMBER, I said a GOOD PR SITE. I get junky link invitations regularly. I only take the ones with a good PR and content similar to my site and if they are Family Safe. The title tag, etc. says something like: Reciprocal Links.bla bla.. So do that and other webmasters will FIND YOU. My site is only a PR3 and trying to reach a PR4 next update. Before you jump, bear in mind please, the site is only a little over one year old. Slowly building... I know the PR will continue to improve. The KEY is to get the good PR links pointing to your site. This method helps me do that.

Most of my sites are at PR4 or PR5 within a few weeks with very few incoming links. I don't do any link trading and don't even have link pages. It's not just about the PR of sites that link to you but whether or not the link makes any sense. How much good is a PR5 horse racing site link going to do for a website about the Girl Scouts?

That is true, but doesn't the fact that a high PR links to you help your site to get crawled often?
I heard that Google crawls PR5 sites weekly, and PR 7-8+ sites daily, and lower sites less often.
I have a PR5 site that is crawled roughly weekly.

The most important single thing you can do to make more money using AdSense is write pages that sell. Smart pricing is the key to the whole thing. If people buy from your pages you will get paid a LOT more than if they don't. Soften up the buyer for the advertiser.

This works for me:

A)Use of Large Rectangle (336x280) ads
[google.com...]

B)Use of Heat map
[google.com...]

C)Go to your Adsense stats:
Select the last 30 or 60 days as a date range
Click on "Page Impressions" to sort the data
Note the pages with high Page Impressions but very low CTR / CPM / Revenue.
Remove Adsense from those pages - your CTR will soar getting you better quality advertisers throughout your site.

I prescribe a dash of patience and a bit of hard work. Forget about magic bullets. But I am making sites for the long haul as I have been for over 10 years and it's paid off over time. That's how you get a PR7 site or two that can feed PR to the rest of your sites. I have one high quality PR7 site without a single ad on it. What it does to help a dozen other sites more than makes up for the lost advertising.
