Is Google About To Dump Adsense?

A very surreal conversation I had this evening...

Scenario: Two webmasters (A & B) using Adsense talking with new webmaster (C) who so happens to have constructed a new regional business informational site using "funded" money!

C, knowing that A & B have Adsense says, "Well, we were going to apply for Adsense however our ISP hosts have told us not to bother since Google are going to close it down entirely soon to get rid of all the corruption and garbage sites in there."

"Pardon?" We both responded..."Oh, didn't you know that Google had been hacked into and their code information was freely available?"

"Our ISP has told us to apply for the YPN (Yahoo)."

I'm not going to bore you with the remainder of the conversation since I'm pretty sure you can imagine the course it took and I would say it was probably the first time I have EVER defended Google so strongly.

The fact is that a "new" webmaster was talking like this raises a serious credibility situation, and like anyone else who has been doing anything for years and someone "new" comes along with "urban myth" type of information, grey suits and disinformation starts to rear its ugly head.

Not the sort of beer night I need after 12 hours in the office!

Why? It's annoyed me that much I have to write about it...

Hmm, sounds like their host is on crack and just fed them some crazy story.

Sounds like the ISP is hoping for a big fat referral fee from Yahoo. And who relies on their ISP for business advice, anyway?

They should have been recently banned from AdSense and trying to take a revenge. That's really funny. Thanks for the post!

That's like destroying a huge city using hydrogene bombs in order to build it better from scratch.

I don't see that being that true anyway I think its at least a few years before its considered with all the money google is making from it themselves.

our ISP hosts have told us not to bother since Google are going to close it down entirely soon

I've heard silly rumors, but that one takes the cake.

The ISP obviously hasn't looked at Google's quarterly earnings statements.

Let's presume that Google does dump Adsense.

Either they also dump AdWords, which is their primary revenue stream, or they introduce an other method, in lieu of AdSense to publish their AdWords. They need the websites and their web masters.

So... I am not sure where I see the loose part for the webmasters. It's a win/win situation (however much I hate that statement). Webmasters might have to do some "programming", and new SEO, but the program will be cleaner.

Win if they don't do anything. Duh.
Win if they change it to something else. Corruption is gone.

Actually, Google doesn't need Adsense to make money from Adwords... I'm sure they would do fine just selling ads in their search results.

P.S. I heard the same thing while I was smoking crack with my neighbor. ;-)

The longer Google keeps AdSense open to (virtually) all comers, the more damage they'd do to their company by dumping it. Think of the huge amount of ill will they'd generate! With YPN and probably an MSN equivalent on the radar screen, I think Google is probably working that much harder to make AW and AS attractive to advertisers and publishers. Google's revenue hopes are way too heavily invested in this program to abandon it. I think the "worst" we could expect would be tighter controls on who they let in as publishers. IMHO.

Abandoning AdSense now (or even changing it radically) would be an engraved invitation to Y and M to move in and fill the vacuum. I for one would welcome new players.

The only reason Y and M are holding off is uncertainty, a lack of AdSense removes the uncertainty.

The only thing more preposterous would be a rumor that Google is dumping search to eliminate the bad results.

Muahahahahaaaaaa! I love that one. Puts things in perspective, doesn't it? :-)

And "Made for Yahoo" scrapers will never exist then? Nor will their publishers put little graphics above the ads that say "Click the ads to support the site"? And Yahoo will manually check each site for compliance on a daily basis to keep out undesirables?

I think not. Adsense competitors will have to face the same scammers that adsense does, and it's fair to say that adsense probably has a better head start than the competition in dealing with them. OK - they aren't perfect in this respect but they are at least working on it.

Sounds like sour grapes to me, or the possibility of a deal for them somewhere along the line.

Write it off as someone with an axe to grind against Google. Lordy, look at all the people with a grudge against google in the Google News forum. I've been on WebmasterWorld for almost 3 years (different names) and the posts have never changed. You go back 3 years and they are the exact same.

1. Google is dead.
2. Google is dying.
3. Google is a joke.
4. I stopped using Google.
5. Nobody I know uses Google.
6. If it happened to Alta Vista, it could happen to Google.

When I first joined WebmasterWorld I was a cry baby whiner like that too, but then I stuck around and learned a few things. I got edumucated real goods.

People will say anything to get a punch in against Google. Unfortunately, most of them are also the sycophants sucking up to GoogleGuy. Haven't you ever worked in an office with these type of people? And then wanted to take them out back and shoot them with a stun gun until they wet themselves?

"I hate the boss, oops, here he comes. Hey boss, I love you!"

How many volts does this thing fire?

Google is not about to write off a half a billion dollar revenue stream (or something around that amount).

And I heard Google will triple divident payments to the stock-holders next quarter. They're saying they're tired of earning and keeping so much money.

Yeah, sure, and I'm sure they would put their future business plans into "their code". Too funny.

That was my thought... ISPs are probably some of the least competent web publishers out there. I wouldn't take any advice on such matters from an ISP.

It's true! Google are going to dump AdSense to get rid of the scrapers.

Right after Microsoft dumps Windows to get rid of the security issues.

And Shell dumps oil to combat all the negative PR about global warming.

You're right, it raises massive credibility issues, mostly those revolving around the originator of those statements.

Reminds me of the day I was standing in the store waiting on a sandwich at the deli counter back when the 'rumors' were swirling about Snapple. Some lady grabbed a bottle of Snapple and pointed to the (K) on the bottle and says loudly "SEE! THAT'S THE KLAN SYMBOL THEY'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT". I replied rather loudly "MY JEWISH WIFE SAYS THAT MEANS IT'S KOSHER, I DOUBT SHE'S IN THE KLAN EITHER" at which point the lady stepped out of the line and bolted out the door.

Best you can do is invest in the company that makes foil hats while the stock is down.

I heard they were going to dump AdWords, AdSense AND Search and put all their money into a Moon shot to set up a radio station on the Moon. That's the next frontier, you know. :-)

most new webmasters believe every myth floating around like that if you submit your site to a SE you will be black listed ( i havent beacause my site got indexed because of load of links pointing to me) and that there is a sandbox
