As you know, clicking on your own ads for any reason is prohibited as it has the potential to inflate advertiser costs.

In the future, if you would like to view the destination URL of ads appearing on your site, I recommend using the AdSense preview tool. The preview tool is a right-click function that allows you to see the ad inventory for your site. You can also click-through to the destination URL without generating invalid clicks to your account.

If you'd like to download the preview tool, or learn more about it, visit:

What should they say each time they get one of those emails?

Seems like since you know it's wrong and they know it's wrong, sending stock reminder would save a lot of time and at least let you know that your account is still in good standing.

Google should put in a system, you click on your own ads, they take 20 bucks of your earnings right then and there.

Take away 20 bucks from earnings frmo clicking ur own ad....I think NOT. That would be very stupid.

A person can accidentally click a link. Whether you have done it or not. It will happen sometime.

ASA,

What about a little addition to the control panel?

We can report our accidental clicks just from within the account including the URL so that you can automatically(or manually) refund the advertiser. Everyone would be happy.

Can you please pass this idea to your team?

Hi,

Yes, a very good idea indeed; would save a lot of expensive human CSR time.

But if they added something to the control panel....the effective paranoia of clicking on one's own ads would be eliminated. No more posts by fearfull webmasters....no more black cars filled with google police making the rounds. Think of how this would impact the economy...car sales dropping and unemployed google employees. How could you possibly suggest this solution?

Uh...yeah...or they could do the intelligent thing and simply not count any clicks coming from each owner's IP address.

simply not count any clicks coming from each owner's IP address

Then, a form to update the IP is needed. Most people are on dynamically assigned IPs.

They already do discount clicks from the publishers known ip address.

By the way I don't support the control panel submit for invalid clicks. I think it would potentially lessen ther seriousness of clicking on ads in some peoples mind and make it standard operating procedure.

i agree. they should penalize the publisher each time, maybe not $20 but certainly take something that will hurt them.

i bet if google did this you'll never see "i accidentally clicked my ad" -- people would be much caution and not clicking ads out of 'curiosity'.

secondly, webmasters should not have ads display for them.. most sites have some sort of membership system where they can block ads for certain users.. and even if someone doesn't have a membership system there are many other ways to stop ads from appearing to the webmaster.. i can't see my ads so i never have a problem.
