This question is driving me crazy. how much do the SEs take into account the order of words in a keyword phrase if there are not quotes when they are looking for relevance? If I find that users are typing :

big widget red

and there are 5000 SE competing pages that come up under that when I do a search, but when I search:
big red widget

I find that there are 10,000 results, does that mean that if I optimize for the fist option I am going with optimization that is 1/2 less competative?

Sounds trivial, but this sort of difference between word order with respect to users entries and webmaster's writing is common.

Thanks!

Not really.

You will get different results, but if you set your adwords account to the "liberal" setting, it will pick up ads for both versions.
