The last time this happened was 5/5, after which our stats took a nosedive for a few days. I'm getting nervous now...
Google can and does find and correct errors in the daily tracking reports. I got very excited a few months ago when I recieved an email from adsense support telling me that an error in my favor had been discovered, and that I would receive a credit when the final figures were tallied. Imagine my dismay when the credit turned out to be about ten bucks. Still, it is to google's credit that they would pay such attention to detail.
Even if clicks don't get recorded in your ad performance report, I think it would take some kind of coordinated nuclear strike for google not to be able to figure out which ads got clicked today. Imagine how much it would cost *Google* for their whole ad network to be down for even a few hours. If there has been some kind of real failure, I'm sure it will be corrected.
If there was an uncorrectable failure, I'm sure the gnashing of teeth will be much louder at Google's headquarters than at webmaster world. Blood will run in the streets of Mountain View and Dublin, from all the heads that roll down them, severed from the bodies of the engineers whose responsibility it was to prevent such a fatal error from happening. This lesson will not be lost on the next round of new hires, those whose job it will be to correct the bug.
