what kind of site makes $300?

I wonder what kind of site makes $300/day? - does it have to be "regularly updated site" - say if you have site on widgets - articles, new kind of widgets, etc or a site that was built over years - but factual data - no new content,but one which tops the search pages because of its age?

if its the dynamic kind - what in your experience is the minimum amount one needs to spend updating a website?

Another possibility - I think is that the folks who make $300+/day - have multiple sites? - again, are these dynamic with daily/hourly/ updated content?

It can be either, there's no hard and fast rule. If your site's about mobile phones you'll have to update pretty often to keep it current. If it's on Monet paintings it can go many years without an update. If it's about planning for death duties it will need to be updated with each budget. In any event the "currentness" of your site affects how the SEs see you and affects your organic IBLs more than directly affecting your earnings.

I think the search engines take into account the subject matter and how actively other sites in that sector are updated. But, even in subjects like history they do like to see new content added frequently.

Varies widely depending on subject, and how much value you get for money. Some spend no money at all and do all the new content themselves.

I have many that are not updated for weeks or months at a time. And some that would go out of date within a few hours if the feeds dried up.

Thank you! oddsod. I guess I am on the right track with the feeds - yet! - Idon't get that kind of money - guess just have to improve my traffic.

improve traffic, then watch smart pricing kick in, theres many people on this board who have had smart pricing at some stage or other, mine has been in for the last 4 - 6 weeks, it cuts your eCPM down by around 50% so just when you thought everything was hunky dory BANG, half your earnings disappear.

Traffic is up by 40% so you think cool its A ok I think once smart pricing is in, yes increase traffic, as smart pricing seems to bottom out (for me it has, I hope) I am now concentrating on increasing traffic.

Others have said remove any ads that are not performing, thats a tough one as all my ads were performing as good as each other, give or take a bit each way, I have hit what I would call the perfect balance and no more adjustments to ads layout etc seems necessary, so I am now aiming at traffic.

Before smart pricing I was on average.
700 uniques eCPM $50ish earnings $40 - $50 per day

After
1000 uniques eCPM $26 - $29 earnings $25 - $35 per day

I run 17 sites with adsense on them, some make a lot more than others, the others, will never make what the main ones make, I concentrate on the main earners
