I kept looking on the adsense settings, but I could not find anything about this topic.
On all the the Ads published on my website, from the Adserve , the link opens in the same window, which means that it takes away my visitors to the advertiser's website, which I find a annoying.

No there isn't. Unless you are a premium adsense publisher, you cannot do it. Nor should you attempt to change the source code to do that.

You're right, it's the search facility that has that option.

I dont get why this isnt availible to all pubs? After all wouldnt it be good if the vistor could then go back to the page on the pub's site and maybe look at another ad?

This way, a visitor clicking on one ad could lead them away from checking out other. Seems silly to me.

Think like an advertiser for a second. Wouldn't you prefer that each visitor coming from an AdSense click have your undivided attention? If you had AdSense on your site as an advertiser, or other outbound links, wouldn't you prefer traffic to click one of your own links (since you paid for that visitor)?

I believe this is more of a philosphical matter. When links don't open in a new window by themselves, you may do so by SHIFT clicking it or selecting the appropriate option in the context menu. But in a link that has code to open in a new window there is no choice, you can't open it in the same window if you wish.

Thus, by not letting ads be opened in new windows, Google is respecting the user right to choose. I think they are right.

Agreed.

Visitors don't like links opening in new windows. I imagine adwords users wouldn't like this either.

They know how to use their 'back' buttons, even Internet newbies. Also, pop-up blockers often prevent visitors from opening links in new windows.

pop-up blockers often prevent visitors from opening links in new windows.

Is that true? I didn't think pop-up blockers had anything to do with user-initiated clicks, just automatic ones. ?

I can remember that a couple months a go there was option if you would that for visitors the link opens a new window instead of the link opens in the same window.
