Is there anything to stop a competitor or anyone for that matter copying your Adsense code and putting it on a site full of spam. This could obviously lead to getting the account banned, I'm sure I am missing something obvious that would stop this?

That's something I've always feared(*).
Unfortunately I think there's nothing we can do about if we don't detect the spammer and email support team before someone pull the red button in the Googleplex.

(AKA Dreaded email paranoia)

Can be detected by channel reports

All ads from

domain.com with one ad channel
domain.com also as URL channel

Small diferences happen, when the page is viewed in the Google cache.

But when there are more than 1% difference, something strange is happening.

100% true.

Also, it would be so easy for G to have us specify which sites are ours and which are not.

So, if your ads were somewhere else, you would get no revenues and no damage.

But ... wouldn't it be easier for a competitor to orchestrate a click fraud on your ads? :-(
