Hello

Is there any format that works better than other.
Better = clicked more times.

I'm talking just about format (not the ad text).

I guess best placement is on top of page but if you know I'm wrong please tell me.

There have been other threads on this topic you may want to check out.

For me: large rectangle, with text wrapping around it and border color set to match page background color.

I use

300x250
120x240
125x125
234x60

160x90 links
120x90 links

automatic distributed by my content management system in the navigation area. It depends on the free space in the menus. The system tries to place
300x250 and 160x90 as the maximum. If not enough place, smaller ads are selected.

In the content area, at maybe 5% of the pages are additional

120x600
250x250 used.

What worked (mostly) for me was moving from a right aligned skyscraper to a large rectangle sort of central on the page above the fold. That increased the CTR by three times. At present, the border blends in with the background (white) but I have to say that in my case that hasn't made a difference.

I would say that it's always worth experimenting with different placements. I've recently re-introduced banners on pages where Adsense previously didn't work by putting the banners in different places to where they previously were. I personally like my site to be pretty much uniform in page layout, but varying the placement seems to have worked on some pages.

It's worth experimenting over time to see what works for you.

People read left to right, top to bottom, so I put a skyscraper on the left and a leaderboard on the top to cover the two most prime positions. I actually started just with the leaderboard on the top, adding the skyscraper on the left doubled my income.

Currently experimenting with blending ads completely into the site opposed to having different borders and background colors and such, seems to also be increasing CTR and eCPM and I'm only half done with this project.
