AdSense units inside maps

On one of my websites, I serve 1000s of maps. They're pretty good to show AdSense units above and below them, since they catch the eye of users. But I've found this question in StackOvervlow (of 2012) about AdSense units *inside* a map made with OpenLayers

Does anybody know if this practice is (still) allowed by Google?

I can't point to anything official that says yes or no, but I seriously doubt that it's allowed. And that thread is 12 years old, so if it were allowed, I think we'd have seen ads in maps out in the wild over the years. I don't think I have.

I have seen such an map implementation just recently on a website that does this on a larger scale. (some kind of flight radar widget).
So seems to be okay with google.
