Adsense auto ads won't go away

I screwed up :'-(

I had an email from Google about the auto ads again, so I thought I'd give them another chance. I turned them on and went through page after page, excluding areas from each section.

I have a responsive ad manually placed near the header. First it shows a third-party ad via Google Ad Manager, and if it doesn't fill then I fall back to my own Adsense. Problem is, now auto ad is plugging another responsive ad directly above that one! Literally filling the entire above-the-fold with nothing but ads!

I know that's what it is because it's surrounded with <div class="google-auto-placed">...</div>

I turned off auto ads for the entire site at around 5pm, and it says that it can take up to an hour to go through. It's now 8:30pm, and I'm STILL seeing it!

Sheeeesh.

I went into the styles and set .google-auto-placed { display: none }, but I obviously don't want that forever.

Any suggestions?
