Compared to last year - Traffic is up slightly. Clicks are up slightly. Page RPM and CPC STINK (Down 23%)!

End of Q1 might reflect why CPC is low/falling; I'm seeing it too account-wide for my various industries.
Trouble is, the new quarter starts on a WEEKEND date which usually is historically already low for earnings. So April might have a very slow start itself until about Monday or Wednesday.

I will say that auto ads are starting to work. RPM is up by about 25% since I turned them on.
@ember To enable auto ads, do you need to remove the individual fixed ad code or does adsense takes care of location specific ads as well?
One reason why auto ads may be perform better is that, they may protect against the "Ad blindness" for repeat visitors to the website.

I have both fixed spots and auto ads on. Adsense "tries" to do its best by injecting the auto ads in there. Doesn't always look great.

@CommandDork I do the same. I have fixed ad placements and I have auto ads turned on. That has worked the best for me.

@magician, you do not need to remove the individual fixed code. Ads show in those spots and now in other places on the page as well. As CommandDork says, the pages do not always look great, but I can live with that since revenue is up. And I limit the number of auto ads, so it seems okay.
@gatormark, I believe you said you don't let Adsense optimize the ads. I see that option in the Ad Settings where you choose to run auto ads or not. Is that the only place where that option is available, aside from experiments?

@ember
“Auto ads” and “optimizing existing ads” are two different things and are set in two different places.
Auto ads are global to a particular site. Optimize existing ads is under in–page formats.

Following on from the posts 8 or so above, I turned on auto ads a couple of weeks ago and the results are hugely impressive revenue wise.
I haven't had time to look at the various settings yet and I have just left the existing Adsense ads as they are. The auto ads do muck up the page layout a bit but with the results I'm getting at the moment auto ads will stay on. I will look at the settings and removing the fixed slots when I get the time so possibly can improve matters even further.
I do wonder though if the excellent financial results are simply the result of accidental clicks by the users of the website - the pages are now so full of ads that they look like the Google SERPS! Content and ads are almost indistinguishable.

To everyone who has Auto Ads turned on,
do you mind posting what your average Page RPM is with Auto Ads on?
Thank you

@allhearts, I don't know if anyone is going to tell you that, but as I said a little earlier, the RPM increased by about 25% on the site with the new auto ads. It was a little wobbly today but still okay.

Thank you @ember,
just trying to see if it makes sense for me, over the years I have found the ad placements that work best on my site without over placing ads within the content with auto ads, but seeing a comparison might prove otherwise, that is why I asked.

Advertisers not publishers May be the reason for the decline of revenues?

In this thread I'm seeing a lot of people turning auto ads on and off, including vignette ads, etc. I've tried auto ads and were disgusted to see that it turns my well crafted web sites into what looked like a spam fest.
The whole Internet is littered with Adsense auto ads these days and I hate those ugly web sites trying to stuff ads down my throat. I avoid those spam invested web sites if I can... Crazy...
What Google Adsense and many (or most?) webmasters forgot is that the second people enter your web site, you need to market the hell out of them to get those people coming back for more. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY with Google's search algorithms acting like a bratty teenage school girl.
I feel the pain as of late. Add revenue absolutely sucks these days. Still I don't use auto ads or any other of those invasive hyped up methods of stuffing ads into people's faces. I make sure I don't irritate people with the ads I show them. I do millions upon millions of add impressions each month and still I do my best not to get people irritated and it pays!
At the end of the day my web site brands stay true and people search for the names of my web sites because they provide value and not irritation. Most of my traffic does not come from targeted SEO keywords but the brand names of the web sites. I provide value to people and people remember the name of my web sites and they come back! - The number 1 way to make money with ads on the Internet!
Just my 2 cents.

I'm on a e-commerce discussion group and advertisers are complaining that Google just does not convert in the last two weeks, since the Core update. As an user, the results are very bad and really, now the google ads in the SERP are very well hidden. On my laptop, on the first screen I see only ads.

@greenlift
YES! You have to market. The days of just sitting and collecting money are over. I spend a few hundred dollars a month just on Google Ads. That may not seem like a lot, but it is in my niche. Not to mention the extensive social network and other marketing.

@greenlift, admire your ethics and altruism toward your sites' visitors. i, on the other hand, strive to ethically maximize earnings from my sites. have been with adsense since 2004 and pretty much immediately roll out whatever new program adsense introduces, including auto ads. some have been successful, others not so much.
that said, i'm honest with visitors, no funny business, no deception, no paid content or links, no spam, no overt or covert data collection. what visitors see is what they get, which i believe has some value. they can take it or leave it. tried ebay and amazon affiliate programs years ago, but have been using only adsense in the past decade.
i do no marketing and mostly rely on search engines for traffic. also have a day job, my sites are a small side hustle. overall have been satisfied with adsense, some years more than others. had thought chatgpt/ai may significantly damage adsense but so far that hasn't happened. revenue wise, it's not a stellar year for me so far, but not dismal either.
