Is there an issue with anchor ads on wide screens?

Seem to cause my browser to crash

Have been having an issue viewing a couple of my sites recently. After about a minute on Chrome the page becomes unresponsive and I have to close the tab. The same was true of Firefox unless I but an adblocker on.

Then I found this thread on the Adsense forum: [support.google.com...]

Someone mentioned disabling anchor ads for desktop and hey presto everything is fine again.

There definitely appears to be an issue here but it seems strangely inconsistent even among my various sites.

Anybody else run into this problem?

Oh, thanks for that. I need to take a look as it may be affecting my meagre earnings.

I had a problem with one of my website that has a wide-screen anchor. When you scroll, the website freezes and becomes inaccessible. I've tried everything but nothing seems to fix the problem. Finally, I turned off the wide-screen.

Yes, it happened on a few of my websites as well, so I had to turn off these wide screen anchor ads. Still not sure what causes it.

Use anchor ads on mobile but consider switching to a floating sidebar vertical ad on desktop.

I can definitely confirm that the problem is in the "Privacy and cookie settings" link that Adsense places in the footer.

Today, I set a Quantcast consent message for one website, which had problems with both mobile anchor ads and desktop anchor ads, where the website froze if you scrolled and reached the footer, and the freeze disappeared on both desktop and mobile anchor ads.

So we can definitely conclude that the problem is in the Adsense consent message in footer (not achor ads), which on some websites causes a problem and they really need to update it.

btw

I have sent feedback about my finding to support via 'Send feedback' link

Not entirely related BUT, Anchor ads have been a nightmare on my widescreens since the system has consistently disregarded my "excluded areas". Thus, always placing them at the top of the screen.
I mention that so's to further any case on the flakiness of Google's offerings.

I have the same problem and I can see many other people do to, I've found at least a dozen articles mentioning this problem.

For me, the common factor appears to be widescreen anchor ads. I know this because where most peope think its only happening on desktop/Windows in Chrome/Firefox it happens on my iPad - regular & Pro (Chrome and Safari). Smaller devices seems to be OK, but I think this is because the anchor ad is at the top.

I've also discovered that its only when you scroll to the bottom of the screen, if you stay at the top of the page, it doesn't freeze.

I cannot believe that even on the Google forum the accepted answer is to turn off anchor ads! It's like throwing money away!

I also cannot believe that we can't get any support from Google.
