Happy 19th Birthday to Google AdSense

Can you believe that Google AdSense was established 19 years ago this past weekend.

From small beginnings, through massive traffic opportunities, and then the MFA phase, through to an established opportunity for publishers to monetize, it's still a teen, but is now quite mature.



How has your 19-years worked out?

I'm reminded somehow of the radio they gifted published back in the day (2004 apparently). Found a picture here: [flickr.com...]

I was now tempted to say "those were the days" but in fact these are the days; the best years of my AdSense "career" have been the recent ones. Hopefully many more to come. Happy Birthday, AdSense!

I've been with AdSense since the beginning basically. I still have the Google cube thing on my shelf. The good old days were around 2013-2015 ish. This year is down 1/3 from a year ago, competition has taken it's toll on me.

I've been with AdSense since the start, too, and ive seen differing phases of its development.
At the outset, if was very good, but when MFA came along it became far less effective when advertisers realised and started pulling the best ads.
It then ticked along steadily for years.
Since the start of the pandemic it took a nosedive and has never recovered: In part because of the specific sector.

Overall, it is a useful and relatively easy was to monetize, but there are now plenty of other ways, depending upon the site type and content.
