Optimize existing ad blocks

Question: Has anyone tested the option 'optimize existing ad blocks' next to 'display automatic ads' ?

I enabled 'display automatic ads' but didnt check the 'optimize existing ad blocks'. Does anyone have measured results?
Should I enable optimizing existing ad blocks as well or not?

According to google that setting is currently not active, its like you are pre-approving something that might happen in the future.
