If you're not quite sure what fonts, colors, and styles will work best for your site, you can let Google's machine learning help you decide.

Funny... at one time you could change all the colors to customize the look of ads. Then they forced the defaults.

Never one to jump at cutting-edge technology when my money is on the line, I'm just now thinking about using the in-feed ads. They launched it 6 months ago, so I think it's been long enough to see whether they're really effective.

Any feedback on whether I should give them a shot? Is the RPM better than a regular horizontal ad? Or do they look too similar to content and just add confusion to the site (which is my real fear)?

The In-feed Ads update, which is optional, might be a good experiment to run again since it's been updated.
Here's the original post on the topic with some observations [webmasterworld.com...]

  • Create a new Native In-Feed ad and select "Let Google suggest a style."
  • Enter the URL of a page with a feed you’d like to monetize. AdSense will scan your page to find the best placement.
  • Select which feed element you’d like your In-feed ad to match.
  • Your ad is automatically created – simply place the piece of code into your feed, and you’re done!

We couldn't find any feeds on your page

Either your page has no feeds or we couldn't detect them

    Hmmmm... ok. It's a forum.
