amp-auto-ads (AdSense)

Are these working for you?

This feature is invite-only from AdSense, I believe, so I'll not go into specifics surrounding it. However, the AMP website contains some code for it, and these pages are visible by anyone - [ampproject.org...] - so I'll keep everything I say relevant to this public domain page.

Invited to take part, I've implemented the code on my website, but am only seeing the following error in the console:
amp-auto-ads config xhr failed: SyntaxError: Unexpected end of JSON input

Is anyone else running this code successfully? I'd be interested to know.

Yes working for me.
I have amp-auto-ads below the amp-ads script in header and tag just below <body>.

Thanks. That's strange; I've done that too. I've turned it off and then back on again, which might do something.

Hey guys, what results have you seen on implementation? Better RPM?

I reported this as a bug last month, after being batted between the AdSense and AMP forums. It turns out that this error message is expected, but not very helpful, on desktop. For some reason, amp-auto-ads only actually does ads on mobile (and this isn't documented).

This makes it entirely useless, given that AMP can be used on desktop too (indeed, I use it for every new project I do). I was a bit peeved about that. But now I know, and I've reverted to inserting ads manually using search/replace in my code. That works just fine.

@james007 totally agree, that is ridiculous, I also chose the AMP only model. Where my AMP page is the only version that exists. It is responsive.

As of today, amp-auto-ads appears to be delivering ads - and a lot of them - on desktop.
