My peak season has mostly ended; 2017 AdSense is running just a bit less than double 2016's AdSense. But not quite as much as 2015 AdSense. I haven't changed much (yet - new designs are being worked on now) and I'm thinking 2016 was just a bad dream. On the other hand, Media.net earnings were way down this year, as were Facebook's (and now apparently they've kicked me and almost all the other websites out of the "beta" and decided to mostly stick with app advertising) but direct ad sales were way up. So, altogether, not too shabby. I am pleased. (Except about Facebook)

Adsense is way down as are all of our other providers at the moment.

Quite a few dashboards took forever to update over the holiday weekend.

Welcome to the graveyard months!

@ember when you blend ads into your content, especially text only advertising units then they look part of the content, in fact sometimes it's difficult to tell AdSense apart from the content. So you are duping people into clicking on these if it's difficult to tell AdSense from the real content.

@nubchai if you go to advance reports and then ad sizes then you can see how much each AdSense unit has earned.

"Duping" implies that users cannot tell ads from content. That might be true if all ads these days were contextual - but they are not. When a user is reading a website about fish and it's accompanied by a picture of a motorbike, he/she would have to be a moron not to know its intent. Ads are intended to distract people and to lure them, not to deceive.

@Ironside, if you are blending so much that people do not realize that they are clicking on ads, how does that benefit you, the publisher? Google knows which traffic converts for advertisers and which does not. If people are clicking to sites that they don't intentionally want to visit, Google sees that and prices accordingly (i.e., low epcs). If advertisers see that the traffic from your site does not convert - why would it if the people you are sending have no intention of staying - then they will block their ads from your site. The best way to do well with Adsense is to make advertisers happy. Sending them duped traffic does not accomplish that.

All very true @ember. Nevertheless I'm sure a lot of these "OMG TOP 20 IDIOT CELEB UNDERWEAR FAILS" sites work on that premise, i.e. overload the page with ads, go for ad placements near navigation targets, seek accidental clicks and hope that 1 in 10 convert.

I really doubt that a site like mashable.com, with more than 60M visits per month according to similarweb, is relying solely on adsense to monetize. I can see in the header of the site that it's using DFP, so probably is selling direct campaigns and benefiting from AdExchange EDA. AdExchange is CPM not CPC. With AdExchange you can access to some other features such as floor prices, private deals and auctions with another type of buyers, together with DFP you can also activate First Look and also benefit of dynamic allocations and also use the ads in some ways that with Adsense won't be compliant. If they're using Adsense I guess that it'd be as passbacks but Adsense wont have any priority in their model. They could also be using header bidding.

I'm just saying this to notice that after a threshold of impressions/earnings most of the publishers have some more options to make money with their sites other than Adsense

Recovering for me, at least on a site with traffic from USA. Though, overall - there will be a decrease in this month's earning.

Same. Not quite back to normal, but yesterday was not bad. I expect things will have straightened out by next week.

There's blended ads and there's native ads and since when do we specifically call out someone's website with screenshots about their ad implementation?

I tried native ads when they first opened the beta and they didn't work better than standard display ads. I'm testing them out in a site this morning, not enough impressions yet to say, but they look much better. RPM is almost doubled.

Ever since I added more responsive units to my articles my page CPR has slowly been creeping up. It's now at 1.43%. In a month the page CTR has risen by approximately .30%. My page RPM was at 2.07 a couple of weeks ago, that drop down to about 1.80, however today that's creeping back up and is at 1.91.

Impressions have increased by 8% and clicks have increased by 8% as well.

I removed a 600 x 250 media.net ad unit from the bottom of every article and replaced it with a responsive link unit. Is a little too early to compare earnings, however, I'm getting more money per click on the responsive link unit. For instance, I had dropped down to between around 1.50 and 2 average earnings each day from all my media.net ad units, not just the 600 x 250 units on my main site. However, I'm getting clicks were 30 or 40p from the responsive link unit so I think in time it's going to prove its worth.

Earnings for me have been terrible since around May 20th (anyone knows if anything has happened at Google around that time?)

CTR has gone down about 50% from 0.50% to 0.25% since May 17th.

RPM has also gone down about 50% from around $3.00 to $1.50.

All this without making any changes to my site and having the same traffic from the same countries as usual.

Not sure what's doing on with AdSense, but it's not looking good...

Without wanting to tempt fate my new layout seems to be working, although quite slowly. Earnings have definitely improved slightly over last month. Also, my page RPM is 2.09 and page CTR is 1.49%. However, today's earnings have not really got off the ground. But it's still morning in the US were most of my traffic comes from.

@Ironside, Maybe you should try Adpushup?

Today is still bad me. I too get traffic from the US. The earning is down by 50% compared to yesterday. Only three hours are left and the day ends in India. Hopefully, it recovers next week. So far the folks in the US have enjoyed a long holiday. The weekend, in the beginning of the month, most of them took off on Monday and then comes the 4th of July. Only three working days for them this month, lol.

If you think July is bad, prepare for a dead August.

I can honestly say I have never seen this before, yesterday's earnings were:

Tablets 57.18%
Mobile 40.76%
Desktop 2.06%

My desktop normally averages 60% (59.69% in June) however this month so far has seen desktop at 37.60% and mobile at 50.47%.

That's one heck of a change in just a few days, has anyone else seen similar?

Earnings normal.
