It recommends an AMP plugin. I have not yet done this because my understanding is that it will add AMP to the end of urls on mobile platform. So anyone linking to the new mobile pages will have their hard work undone if they decide to remove the AMP pages. Is this correct? Has anyone seen a bog boost in their mobile rankings after converting to AMP. I score quite low on mobile page speed analysis so its tempting to try and boost that.

May be you should first investigate and study why your site obtains a low score. You are talking about a plugin, so I assume you use some kind of CMS?

Remember that it is never a human at google who recommends things, because its almost a fully automated system. Google doesn't even know we exist :)
