Mobile Placement Tips

Hey guys, long-time lurker and first time poster.

Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or tips on how they place their adsense ads on mobile. My content is shorter form (400 - 600) words. I currently use 3 ads: one after the first paragraph of content (just below the fold), one after the post content and one in the sidebar that makes it way to the bottom on mobile.

Fairly new to Adsense and am looking to try new placements (on mobile) in order to improve my revenue.

Let me know what works for you on your site!

Welcome!

I use two adblocks on a responsive site (use to have three but gave the final block to Link Ads).

One sits under the main article image (above the title of the article) and the other sits at article's end. Nothing fancy but it has worked for years and no issues with the Adsense police. Articles are medium-to-long length by my standards with "Read More" buttons showing the second half. This button sits above the second adblock (the end-of-article one).

On desktop, these same ads fill a top-left-column (sidebar) and end-of-article placement. Again, nothing fancy.

Thanks for the reply! Have you tested using more ad units in the past to no avail? Was thinking about dropping my third unit (that doesn't get many eyeballs as it is at the bottom or potentially moving it to a different spot.

This might be a rookie question but was wondering how you have different layouts on mobile and desktop. Was that coded by yourself?

Thanks for taking the time

You might want to watch this seminar - [webmasterworld.com...] - which goes into mobile placement a fair amount. It recommends, essentially, using a medium rectangle that is on the pagefold (i.e. you can see it on the page load).

After following some of the advice in there, I'm now only running two ad spots, rather than three.

The trick, says that seminar, is to ensure a high viewability figure. That gets better advertisers, and therefore better money.

I've still some additional work to do to raise my viewability figure, but the initial changes I've made as a result of this post have been very beneficial to the site.

Vertical ad unit to the header and 300x250 ad units right below the fold and rest of the page.
