CPC for my ads on mobile is only one-fourth of the CPC on desktop

I have 2 websites for the US market monetized via adsense. Around 70% of the total revenue comes from CPC bids.

The websites are responsive and the traffic is 50% Mobile, 45% Desktop and 5% Tablet.

The problem is - the CPC I get from mobile is just 25-30% of the CPC of desktop. The CTR is almost same on both.

Is there a way to improve CPC on mobile? Which ads perform best on mobile?

Most folks are finding mobile to be less than desktop. So far no one has found a "fix" to this.

Are you using any link units? My mobile earnings were about 25% of desktop until a couple of months ago when I tried using a couple of link units (hadn't bothered with them for years, but when they brought out the new responsive units thought I would give them a try) and now my CPM on mobile has almost doubled.

Best performer is a responsive link unit right at the bottom of my mobile page, previously a bit of a dead zone advertising wise.

I understand that for most folks mobile is less than desktop, however, I am talking about one-fourth CPC here. It would have been okay if it's 70% of desktop but it is 25% of desktop which means something is wrong somewhere.

when they brought out the new responsive link units
Oh! I didn't know they introduced the responsive ad links. That's good news, thanks. I have been using media queries to show link ads only on desktop. They've always given me good results.

responsive link unit right at the bottom of my mobile page
Yeah, I will try them at the bottom but it is a not a fix for my problem. My CTR is alright, CPC is what is very low on mobile. Anyway, let's see if they bring additional revenue which is always welcome.

Best performer is a responsive link unit right

Blimey, they kept that quiet, that's precisely what I wanted for my responsive sites.

It just goes to show how uncommunicative this darned company is!

I tried a 728 x 15 and it made a right old mess, it didn't respond properly whatsoever.

How did you try 728 x 15? It has to be a responsive ad link with no dimensions attached to it (unless you are doing it via media queries).

Dimensionless is the operative for responsive. As an aside, ordinary text based seem to do a tad better in mobile as well. Mix and match.

Copied and pasted the code as given, no dimensions specified anywhere. It kept punching through the RHS regardless of how many times I refreshed it, sometimes it worked however mostly it didn't.
