For those of you who use media.net

a few things I've just discovered

I know some of you use media.net to supplement their AdSense revenues.
However, you might do your site more harm than good. Today I ran a pingdom test on one of my pages. Turns out, that with medianet enabled I had 600+ (!) requests per page load. Once I disabled media.net ads... went down to 200.

So if you have medianet ads running, they also pass along some more trackers, which most likely will slow down your webiste. Also, I talked to a medianet rep, and they won't be providing CTR reporting anytime soon, which, in todays market is frankly ridiculous.

I think it's time for me to ditch them for someone else. Just thought you should know.

True, but I still like them. Only thing I've found that comes anywhere close to Adsense.

In testing over a year, on and off, I've NEVER seen anything in their ads besides search keywords. Not once an actual direct ad. Is this typical or am I doing something wrong with media.net

That is not my experience and I would contact your ad rep and ask about it.

With Media.net, it took about two months of their "optimizing" before they started to really pick up as far as performance.

Netmeg, did you reach out to them directly asking for said "optimization"? My CPMs dropped significantly over the last year, so I'm kind of torn, because I agree with Ember (for better or for worse).

No, they told me up front I had to be patient (because I had already showed them that I am not patient) and that I wouldn't see any real results for a while (the "while" turned out to be a couple months) And they were right - it's nowhere near AdSense, but it significantly out performs every other network I've tried.

However one thing I learned is that if you turn the ads off for a while, and then turn them back on, they don't seem to stay optimized. I turned them off for a while (cause I got pissed when they didn't approve one of my sites) and then I turned them back on (when they finally approved that site) and earnings were dismal. I had to wait another month to get back the kind of earnings I had expected from media.net.

Thing is, despite the relatively good-ish performance, medianet is adding too many requests for a single page pull, which significantly affects page load times. Have you tested another network that might perform not as good as MN, but still in the same ballpark range? Would love to hear your input.

I actually put medianet as a passback for an RTB router, will check back in here as soon as I see results.
