As a first step, I've stopped by here at WW to see if others are getting an email from adsense stating "On May 8, 2015, you changed the tax information for your Google AdSense account. ", which of course I didn't.

I've checked my account and don't see anything out of the ordinary, just a statement that says I filed a W2 back in 2003, certainly not tax number is shown.

Hopefully Adsense Chat is running right now.

Nope, I saw it yesterday. Did exactly as you did. Checked what info I could (last three of bank account number was OK and the filing date seemed right). Maybe they're doing something in their system (moving data or something) that's triggering these things. It's scary on it's face though.

Interestingly I got it on my old account (which was an individual account) and not on my current account (which is a business account) A couple of my acquaintances on Twitter mentioned they got it too, all dated May 8, so it sounds like a glitch.

Adsense never fails to disappoint. I've been "1st in cue" for the last 30 min on the Chat line. A few months ago I was the same for over an hour. Then when they decided to respond they gave me less than 2 minutes to respond and then closed the connection. I hadn't even left my machine, I was just using a different browser window for that 2 minute period.
I guess all is well, I'll check into things more deeply when back home and have better access to the web.

To AdSense help's credit, after giving up on chat the did email me. It's some error on their part. Of no concern.

Just got this.

Recently, a communication from Google was sent to you in error.

During regular verification of customer tax information with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), a technical error resulted in an email to you incorrectly stating that your tax information has changed. In no way has your tax information changed or been compromised.

No action is required on your part and you can disregard the email.

Google sincerely apologizes for this error and any confusion or inconvenience to you.

I'm not sure what you're saying, but I got a couple of those notices yesterday as well.

I got the "you changed your tax information" email a couple of weeks ago and then the "oops sorry" email yesterday. Glitches like that can create a sense of unease.
