Hi,

I got a call from Adsense Account manager few days back to implement some changes in the ad placement. The changes were the same, which Adsense has been telling us for quite some time.

During the call, i mentioned that starting July, we have seen a decline in the earnings. And the account manager confirmed that lot of publishers are facing this issue and it is due to the seasonal impact.

However, the earnings haven't improved in August (even if we consider that July was lower due to holidays).

I am wondering, what is going on. Are other people also facing tough times ?

And, the suggestions were stupid. So, i told her politely in email that i won't implement them as i have already tried them in recent times.

I'm assuming you're European (use of holiday and not vacation)?
In Europe, (especially here in France), everybody is off in August for holidays. I'm not sure normality returns until September.

I've seen the same trend. If it continues into September I'll be disappointed. Europeans will be done with Holiday, Americans will be back in school and at work as well. So, hopefully more people will be spending time online shopping.

I agree with what the previous two members implied and will state it explicitly. The season referred to is Summer, specifically the months of July and August, when many people traditionally take time off work to go on holiday/vacation. Quite a bit of business slows down as decision making on certain kinds of purchases are put off until September.

It's a good idea to investigate seasonal trends and try to capture some of that traffic if any of it is relevant for your site. I've been cultivating August/September traffic with some freebie giveaways (not for links, for traffic) and the traffic and rankings have been spiking for this seasonal traffic.

Check your earning trends the previous year by month. If it's the same, then it's normal. If you see a big decline for this year, then your traffic/ranking may have been hit.

Depending on your niche, holiday season's may not mean a slump, and maybe even the opposite.

The person may have been referring to your niche specifically.

Various niche increase during the summer, some niche do their best during the summer season.
