I think it depends on where you are. I'm in the UK. My bank negotiates the cheque, and I usually see it in the account a week after deposit. The first time I paid in a cheque in US$, they allowed it to clear in the usual manner and it took a month.

Please let us know what country you are in, and maybe someone local can provide more info.

0 days. Explain to your bank that it is a regular occurence. They should make a note of it in your profile and then you should be able to access the funds immediately (or at least after you have gone through the process a few times. My bank tellers always look at the check and ask, "Do you work for Google?" And I reply, "No they are my client." (Or am I their client?)

(Technically I know the check hasn't cleared yet, but Google's name is so trustworthy in my bank that as long as YOU hold the trust of your bank you shouldn't have to wait.)

In the UK, via the Bank Of Scotland, 9 weeks+

They are for significant sums of money, but, this seems excessive. Not that I mind that much, we don't need the money and only account for it when "paid".

I am with HSBC. They have no problem taking smal cheques for negotiation and post money to my account in a day or two. Unfortunately, when they see my G cheque, they refuse to negotiate it on the spot. "Oh no, not for THIS amount. Such cheques are collection only" they say. And collection is taking usually more than one month. My arguments for accepting G cheques like "come on G worth 30 billion pounds, they wouldn't write bad cheques, would they?" has no effect, my bank manager simply answers that she never heard about any gogles.
So, what is you experience with NEGOTIATING large US$ cheques, not necessarily from google, in UK? What is the largest amount taken for negotiation by a UK bank? For me the largest one (not from google) was around 800$.

For me, the largest US check to-date is for a little over $65K, and it has now been with the Bank of Scotland for 7 weeks! I expect to see the money, in the account, in the next 14 days....but, this is a dandy way to run a business!

Most of my cheques are for $10K to $50K, and they all take 7 to 9 weeks to "clear"! It has nothing to do with Google, it is the pre-historic system used by UK banks to credit US cheques.

The money can be as good as gold bullion, verified overnight by the UK banks, but still they like to go through all of the red-tape!

I have about $225K waiting to be cleared by UK banks on US drawn cheques at this point in time. All I can say is account for the funds when they are credited to your bank account, and not a second sooner!

Usually 0 days (HSBC in the UK - negotiated). Of course it does take about 4 days for the cheque to get here in the post....

I strongly suggest you send your cheques for negotiation (eg clears same day) rather than collection. Either that or change your bank. ;)

You're right. I'm with the same bank and it takes 3 working days, which is the same time it'd take for a sterling check.

If you want faster, tell GOOG to join the bank of scotland and they'll process the BOS check in 24 hours.

I'd enquire about their being different circumstances for larger checks, I never had the pleasure of cashing a $65K one. It does seem that yours is taking too long, though.

Like here (Brazil)
Almost all banks need 25-45 days to clear U.S. checks. Checks of anothers countrys can delay more than 6 mounths.

If I go to the bank with my father, the teller can clear my check right away, since he knows everyone there, and he is a pretty trusted person. When I go in alone, the balance shows up in my account immediately but it is "frozen" for 30 days. It's unfortunate they can't lessen this for trusted companies, or reoccuring checks.

We use Hongkong Bank in Canada and we get 50% of the amount as soon we bank in the cheque. The remaining amount is deposited within 1 week.
