When Does Image Preview Generate An AdSense Page Impression?

Oh dear, I sort of have my image problem back again.

No one is hotlinking etc therefore that's not the issue, the problem is that I'm back to #1 for a 1+ billion searched for term in images and everytime someone looks at it an AdSense Page Impression is generated.

I'm guessing it's only when they actually go to my site that this happens and not the expanded view Google shows however someone else may know better.

This is not good since my overall CTR and eCPM are now falling like crazy, my earnings are currently consistent.

I could remove AdSense from that page however does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Adsense shouldn't be showing impressions unless the user clicks through to the page BUT what they're actually doing is another thing.

What if you limit allowed sites to just your own domain, that way, google.com will not be permitted to showing your ads and thus those impressions won't be shown?

I'm actually seeing an increase in clicks on that site today presumably from people who've been looking for that specific image to hotlink.

I'm going to let it ride for a day or two and see what happens, at the moment its getting 500% more Page Impressions than its average.

You could create a URL channel at the domain level. For example, if your site is xyz.com, just create an xyz.com URL channel to exclude impressions from Google and other sources.

This can be useful in combination with the Allowed Sites feature, as URLs not included on your Allowed Sites will not generate earnings but the impressions and clicks will still be recorded.

Ok, I've let this ride now and tomorrow will be a couple of weeks. Things have settled down with traffic and I'm still there at the top of the SERPs.

Overall AdSense Page Impressions are +143% and earnings +115%.

Nearly all these extra impressions are from the USA and bandwidth is +63%, nothing to worry about, certainly not looking at the extra earnings:-)
