I'm getting around 10,000 impressions per month and only earning $20 per month from it with small click through rates IMHO.

I've tried everything I can to monetize without scaring away visitors, but it isn't working. Only thing I can do now is just build up more traffic. Is there any advice anyone can offer me? I run a military website... revenue has been slow. :(

@alika, but writing about something that doesn't particularly interest you doesn't guarantee you money. Probably the best way put is, write about something that makes you a load of money through online advertisement.

@alika, but writing about something that doesn't particularly interest you doesn't guarantee you money.

It all depends on you, really, as to what you want to achieve.

When I started my websites 12 years ago, I knew nothing about the topic. It's not something I loved. It's not something I particularly care about. My educational background is totally different from this topic

But I did my research. It's a space where there's a steady stream of advertisers. Never runs out. So if I want an information site monetized by advertising, the space was it. That was pre-Adsense.

Now I'm an "expert" on the topic I knew nothing about before. And my research proved me correct.

There's really two schools of thought here: pursue something you are passionate about; and pursue something where the biggest opportunities lie. Some of you are obviously in the first school of thought, which is fine. I am with the latter school of thought.

It's just that if you're in a space where there's not that many advertisers and the user intent needed to make Adsense work is not there - you can tweak your website till you're blue in the face and still see only $20.

It's your choice

From what I am seeing and hearing, 10,000 impressions per month and $20 is not that bad at the moment.
Just hope it doesn't drop under 20.
