Suddenly this morning my EPM/CPC jumped to well beyond the best ever. I assumed it would dissipate through the day... but it has only increased
I don't notice much change in ad mix but I have about 25 different subjects so I won't know where it is all coming from until the channels update.
Anyone else's slump over?
What can I do? Is this normal? Did it happen any other time?

What people don't want to acknowledge is that earnings go up and DOWN. Adsense is chaotic. If you use channels you'll no doubt see that the earnings for each one can go up and down. Plus different site categories *may* have different cycles.
Since most web masters won't accept the chaotic nature of adsense, they look for arbitary patterns - like the end/start of the month, the end of the week, where ever there a pattern seems to appear. It leads to a lot of worry and meaningless speculation.
Things you can control to a point: you can optimize your site, add new content, move the ads around. These can help, but keep in mind...
Things you can't control: ADVERTISERS ultimately set the ad prices, and the hence the money you get. Fewer advertisers or lower budgets mean less money for web masters in that area. That's a simple fact. IT only takes a few key bidders to drop out and your income can plummet.
Saturday was a dramatic change for me, from 50% down to 50% above all time highs... continues through today so far.
One thing I changed was increased my Adwords campaign by about 50% to try to make up the lower overall earnings - but that shouldn't have affected CPC.
Whatever there isn't a lot I can do about it other than work harder to get well matched affiliate ads on the pages.
did any of you notice a decrease in traffic from Goggle at the same time? there was a algorith change that was reported in the G news forum, and I noticed my slump started along with traffic decrease on same day. I have presumed my internal PR dropped since I wasnt working hard on links.

Why stress over it? Just check once at the end of the month and save yourself a lot of unecessary stress. It will save you a lot of time too. Time you can spend improving your sites and increasing your Adsense revenue.

Because thats why we all join adsense, to make money, and when the money stops coming everyone gets stressed. I'd like to see anyone staring at his adsense stats with a cool face with earnings at 1/2 while impressions and CTR up.

How do we know if we are increasing adsense revenue if we only check once a month, it would become difficult to judge different ad placements, different ad colors, if we only checked it once a month. To maximise adsense earnings you HAVE to check your stats, after all thats what they are there for STATISTICS to help you. It's all information that a publisher needs use in order to maximise earnings.
You should look at it the opposite way. Your current lower income is the normal rate - and higher months were bonuses. I am constantly surprised that so many poeple refuse to accept that income can go down. It happens. It's part of adsense - get used to it.
If you have optimised your site and income goes down, that's bad but it happens. Besides, there is absolutely nothing you can do to make advertisers pay more for your ads.

If I followed these advices, my AdSense income would be dropped like a rock instead of an increasing 25% a month for the last 12 months.
From a business perspective, you have to consider seasonal fluctuations for your products interest and the advertisers willingness to pay more (or less) for top keyword placement during these seasonal fluctuations. Revenues are going to go up and down. Overall, you want to see a general rise in revenue.
I think its smart to keep daily records, its no different that looking at your daily sales if you had a regular bricks and mortar business. Personally I created a spreadsheet to simply add the previous days stats for the Ads and Search functions. I keep current month and past monthly averages. I show the normal monthly performance stats along with a few other percentage calculations that AS doesn't provide but can obtain from the very stats it provides in the admin area.
It doesn't take a lot of time to check stats, couple minutes a day. A worthwhile investment to know where you are at and where you are headed. Especially if you're aiming for the man in the fedex suit to show up at your door. :-)
Guys, there is no "slump". Some publishers are seeing a drop, some publishers are seeing a rise. That's how Adsense has always worked. Even people who have had a drop have posted in here that earnings have recovered. Keep working on the sites rather than the stats. Looking at the stats more than once a day is obsessive. Not examining the long term figures carefully enough is negligent. Looking at the stats 10 times a day does not compensate for lack of an intelligent analysis of the figures.
What about me? I check the stats about every 5 minutes and it makes no cents at all...

There is no sense in checking earnings that add up to no cents (and that's irrespective of the frequency of your checks) ;)
But maybe one day there will be some cents. And all the time spent wasting away checking for cents will all be worth it!
What have I changed on my site? Nothing, zip, rien, niente, nulla, zero. Higher paying advertisers have come in and my CPC is double last month's.
second...the regularity with which you check your stats will not help your earnings. As far as ad colours and placement, any webmaster worth their salt will have optimised that within the first month or two of using AS. It may well be worth while changing things around every month or two to prevent things getting stale, but noticing a CPC slump will not help you at all.
CPC slumps have nothing to do with surfers' behaviour on your site...CTR might do, but not CPC. So why worry your pretty little heads about it?
third....I would so love to spend a month on this forum without the near daily "my earnings are down 6% in the last four hours...#*$!?" threads, but alas....
