just noticed that there is a new setting under the 'account settings' tab. it says "third party ad preferences" and asks us whether we want to "allow advertisers to use their audience information to deliver more relevant ads to my site".

this is a bit of a no-brainer im guessing, because unless you turn it on you're going to get untargeted ads. anyone know when this was introduced. im hoping it was this week, because that might explain my low earnings this week.

but what does this mean for adsense? the whole point of adsense is that it is supposed to deliver targeted ads based on the content of the page. but now it seems that they are giving us a load of third-party advertisers which deliver their ads through less rigourous methods. presumably they deal in general subjects, like "sport" ads to sport sites, and finer targeting which nails it right it down to "manchester united t-shirts" has just got chucked out the window.

I believe this has been around for some time now.
